There Are People You Have Never Met Who Love You

An experimentation with photochemistry, as well as an exploration of intimacy, time, and loss. The creation of these images must be done in complete darkness, where I use an eyedropper tool to drip color photochemistry directly onto the emulsion of exposed 4x5 sheet film. Because only certain areas of the film are conventionally developed, the remaining latent image is lost forever upon exposure to light. The results of this process vary from total abstractions to hints of imagery clouded by the inherent imperfections of the chemical process.

The scenes I choose to photograph for this work reflect the soft vulnerability felt in moments of love and grief. The extent to which these images can be seen invokes a presence that is no longer there, or will no longer be there, but holds in suspense the suggestion of a mark.
